CHRIS CORNELL PENS NEW SINGLE FOR AMERICAN IDOL WINNER DAVID COOK, ENTITLED “LIGHT OUT”

SOUNDGARDEN AND AUDIOSLAVE FRONTMAN READYING UPCOMING THIRD SOLO ALBUM SCREAM, PRODUCED BY TIMBALAND

September 23, 2008 — Santa Monica, CA — Chris Cornell, best known as the acclaimed lead singer and songwriter for Soundgarden and Audioslave, has co-written the new single from American Idol winner David Cook, entitled “Light Out.” The track, which is being released to radio this week, is the lead-off single from Cook’s upcoming solo debut. Cook scored big on American Idol the week he performed Cornell’s bluesy reinvention of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” which appears on Cornell’s 2007 solo album Carry On.

“Chris Cornell is a great musical mind,” Cook says. “It is an honor to work with him in any capacity on what hopefully will be a huge hit for the both of us.”

Cornell, who co-wrote “Light Out” with songwriter/producer Brian Howes (Hinder, Puddle of Mudd, Rev Theory), has spent the last several months writing and recording his third solo album, entitled Scream, with hip-hop super-producer Timbaland. Though a release date has not been confirmed, three tracks — “Scream,” “Ground Zero,” and “Watch Out” — are currently available for purchase on iTunes. Appearing with Timbaland on Ryan Seacrest’s “On Air” radio program, Cornell pronounced Scream “different from anything I’ve ever done.”

Heralded as one of the pioneers of the grunge era for writing a string of hits for Soundgarden, including the Grammy Award-winning “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman,” Cornell continued to shine as a solo artist after Soundgarden disbanded in 1997. “Can’t Change Me,” the first single from his 1999 solo debut Euphoria Morning, was nominated for a Grammy Award, while a reworked version of “Mission” was included on the soundtrack to the film Mission: Impossible II. In 2000, Cornell put his solo career on hold to join former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk in Audioslave. Cornell wrote all the lyrics for a series of the band’s hits, including “Like a Stone,” from Audioslave’s 2003 triple-platinum self-titled debut, and “Be Yourself” and “Doesn’t Remind Me” from its 2005 platinum-certified album Out of Exile. In 2006, Cornell co-wrote and performed the theme song for the James Bond film Casino Royale, entitled  “You Know My Name.” The track also appeared on Carry On, which debuted at No. 17 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart.

“Light Out” premieres exclusively on AOL Music on September 24th and will be made available on iTunes on September 30th. For more on Chris Cornell, including details about his upcoming solo album Scream, please visit his official website www.chriscornell.com.
